Attracting Great Millennial Talent to Your Company

attracting millennial talent Millennials are going to drive the future of business. The millennial workforce of 53.5 million has surpassed Generation X and now represents the largest share of the American workforce. This group is highly educated, adaptable, tech-savvy and quick learning. Millennials’ skills are essential for businesses that want to innovate and stay relevant in the ever-changing business world. However, managers have learned that it is difficult to find and retain millennial talent.

Here are some ways you can attract (and keep) excellent millennial talent:

Create a dynamic culture

Your company needs to be an industry leader that understands millennial wants, needs and behavioral patterns. The modern workplace is constantly changing, due to new technologies, globalization, automation and a fluctuating economy. A modern company needs to create culture that works with the progressive, millennial mindset. With the right culture, you won’t have to force anyone to do anything.

Encourage innovation

Millennials strive to develop, create, contribute and innovate. Unlike any other generation, it is their goal to make an impact on the world. These millennial qualities will not only fuel your growth and influence, but encouraging innovation contributes to overall happiness. If you want to attract and retain millennial employees, your business should be unique and nurture creativity.

Flexibility

The millennial workforce changes and creates industries. These individuals have the flexible skill sets required to be successful in a technology-driven world full of change, instant responses and infinite workdays. Millennials crave experiences and opportunities above all else. You need to create an environment that allows people to work remotely and even travel. Providing the opportunity to have unique experiences will keep millennial employees engaged. Maximize the talents, creativity and independence of your employees by giving them freedom and flexibility.

Make Your Business Meaningful

Millennials are driven by purpose. They want to be impactful and need more than a large salary to motivate their work. Find a charity or cause that is important to and congruent with your company’s mission. If you can sell products or services and make a difference, everyone will win. Employees will find fulfillment when they’re part of something bigger.

The state of Utah currently has a 3.4% unemployment rate which is well below the 5.0% national average.

We’ve also seen a 2.9% job growth rate last month.

“It’s a strong number and places Utah fifth in the nation for total job growth,” says Carrie Mayne, Chief Economist at the Department of Workforce Services.

Reed Laws, president of Your Employment Solutions had this to say about the latest job report.

September’s job growth data doesn’t surprise me as we continue the uphill battle of screening, hiring, and on-boarding solid, reliable candidates.  Due to this increased growth we have also seen wage increases over the last few years as companies fight for the best talent.

Fortunately, YES has created internal measurements and processes to keep up with most of our clients demands.”

Kenneth Vanderburg, manager of our West Valley City staffing office added, “Our job market continues to grow. This makes employment a very competitive industry which in turn makes keeping employees happy longer, even more difficult.

Luckily we have great clients who have also seen how tough it is to work with such a small employee pool, that they have raised their wages and have made adjustments internally to make their workplace more inviting and appealing for others to stay longer.”

Jarum Stone, the safety and operations manager at Your Employment Solutions had this to say about the latest job report.

My favorite quote from the clip is, ‘We [the Utah economy] are strong and steady.’

I would say that is also a reflection of how YES is doing. We have more jobs available than ever before in the history of YES! The increase of unemployment rate from 3.8 to 4.0 is a great sign for our economy. With more jobs there are plenty of opportunities for employees to be selective in terms of where they want to work. We know that when employees can be selective they are more likely to find a job they love rather than settle for the few options available.

It’s a great time to be in business in Utah!”

We’re also starting to see wage growth in Utah as a result.

Cassandra Smith, one the great employment specialists at Your Employment Solutions had this to say about the latest job report:

“The unemployment rate popped up to 3.8% which means there are more people in Utah without employment. This means YES has a great opportunity to help people in Utah find a better paying job to meet there needs. Last year 44,000 new jobs were filled with quality candidates. YES, was a part of that growth potential. YES, has an opportunity to hit the job market and possibly place more candidates for the next year. We also need to look at quality candidate’s vs someone to show up to the job. A long term employee is where our focus should be. Helping our community expand and grow.”

About Your Employment Solutions

Founded in Utah during 1995, Your Employment Solutions (YES) had a vision to re-create the traditional Utah staffing and employment methods. The owners, Reed Laws and Kerry Westenskow, quickly realized that CUSTOMIZED staffing was nowhere to be found. In order to customize meant every fiber of the company’s existence had to have the ability to adapt and react to each and every client.

In addition to customizing, YES has taken this vision one step further by being the first of its kind to certify its staffing process, build its own Utah recruiting job board, and own its criminal background company.

Utilizing these tools allows YES to staff qualified workers for companies in need of 1 employee – or – 3 bazillion employees. Combining these efforts along with exceptional customer service has helped shape the company’s vision of being, “Unquestioned leaders in customized staffing.”
