Most Recent Employment Numbers in Utah

The Utah Department of Work Force Services releases data on current jobs and unemployment for the state on a monthly basis. You can watch their most recent video below for a detailed update of the most recent employment data.

The state of Utah currently has a 3.1% unemployment rate ranking below the 4.1% national average.

We've also seen a 3.3% job growth (compared to March of 2017) rate last month compared to the 1.6% national growth rate.

“Knowing that job growth continues to move forward, we feel confident that there are going to be opportunities,” says Carrie Mayne, Chief Economist at the Department of Workforce Services.

utah employmentHow Utah Employment Numbers Affect Staffing

Aime Lopez, an account manager in our Ogden, Utah staffing office had this to say about the latest job report:

“This information gives us some insight on what industries are currently in the most need and how many people are actually looking for jobs at the moment. I think the Utah job numbers help us at YES to better understand our audience and what kind of potential employees we are going to have walk through the door.

If we stay on top of this we are able to understand why we may be struggling on filling jobs and be educated enough to explain it to our clients as well.”

Claudia Olivares, an account manager at our North Salt Lake, Utah staffing office added this:

“When I hear that the economy in Utah is good and unemployment is low here which is true; a lot of companies have the mentality that it’s going to be harder to find people to work and overall everything is harder because of the competition too, etc. But that’s not necessarily what it means.

Even though unemployment is lower, there are still a lot of people out there looking for work. A lot of job openings and job seeking. I think taking this is as a challenge is a good mentality to have and with that, focusing on better recruitment strategies. There are steps we can take to combat our hiring hurdles, if we focus on our status, recruitment, hiring the right fit to avoid turnover, we should be able to increase the number of applicants interested In our jobs and ultimately fill our open roles.”

Thanks for the input Aime and Claudia!

How To Get Hired at a Staffing Agency

Getting Hired at a Staffing Agency is Easy!

Some people wonder if working with a staffing agency is a difficult or a time-consuming headache where you apply and then wait weeks to get assigned somewhere. But the truth is the application process is simple and in some cases at Your Employment Solutions we can make you a job offer the same day you apply.

now hiring employmentAnother question that often comes up is whether or not staffing agencies charge employees to work with them. The answer is no. Reputable staffing agencies do not charge the employees any fees. See this post to find out more about how staffing agencies work.

Is work at staffing agencies only short-term and temporary? Should you look elsewhere if you want a job that will last? The truth is there are lots of long-term and permanent opportunities via staffing. Most companies use staffing agencies as a foot in the door opportunity. Typically you will see a 90-day probation period. Use that time to excel and show your value to the company and you could find yourself hired on permanently.

Finally, some people ask if companies that work with staffing agencies treat staffing workers like second-class people? While it's true that not every company does a great job at valuing it's workers, at YES we try to build partnerships with our clients and give advice and suggestions to make sure each employee is working in a positive and safe environment.

So How Do You Get a Job With a Staffing Agency?

Getting hired at Your Employment Solutions is easy!

  • Step 1: Visit our online job board at youremploymentsolution.com/jobs
  • Step 2: Once you find the job that’s right for you, fill out the online application!
  • Step 3: Come into one of our offices and interview with one of our recruiters or account managers!
  • Step 4: If all goes well in the interview, accept a job offer and go to work!

Our goal at Your Employment Solutions is to connect the right person to the right job. If you or someone you know is looking for work, visit us online, or in person at any of our locations.

We’d love to help you find your employment solution!

Cheers to Utah Jobs!

Utah Job Numbers | March 2018

Most Recent Employment Numbers in Utah

The Utah Department of Work Force Services releases data on current jobs and unemployment for the state on a monthly basis. You can watch their most recent video below for a detailed update of the most recent employment data.

The state of Utah currently has a 3.5% unemployment rate ranking below the 4.1% national average.

We've also seen a 2.9% job growth (compared to January of 2017) rate last month compared to the 1.5% national growth rate.

“Employers are likely struggling to find people to fill the jobs that they would like to fill,” says Carrie Mayne, Chief Economist at the Department of Workforce Services. “And so they're not adding (jobs) at the rate they used to add.”

utah employmentHow Utah Employment Numbers Affect Staffing

Chris Walker, an account manager for one of our Ogden, Utah staffing clients had this to say about the latest job report:

“Strong economic growth shows potential for what’s ahead. However, the obstacle is getting worse with unemployment. It’s positive for those seeking a career change because they have their pick of the bunch, but what does that mean for us as a staffing agency? It means we will have more delay in filling jobs because the people we are getting are usually quitting the job they have to move into a new company.

The best way we can follow through with our mission statement is spend more time with individuals and make sure they understand the job they are going into and qualify for the position as well. That way we take care of our employee and our client. Which will, hopefully, in turn help decrease the turnover we’re experiencing.”

With that information we can focus on the areas that will expand the most so we can help people to have a long term and stable job.”

Cassandra Smith, an account manager at our North Salt Lake, Utah staffing office added this:

“The Struggle is REAL… With the 2017 and 2018 January review being almost identical, this is going to be a tough year for us to find quality candidates and keep them. Good news is the economy will be a steady growth with new jobs in construction and service/hospitality. Bad news, other companies will not see a fast growth like in years past.

We need to come up with other alternatives to keep quality candidates. Work with our clients to find quality and experienced and entry level candidates. We are almost scrapping the bottom of the barrel with 41,300 jobs open and only 49,200 reported employees out of work in the state of Utah. So again, the Struggle is Real…”

Thanks for the input Chris and Cassandra!
