Utah Job Numbers | July 2018

Most Recent Employment Numbers in Utah

The Utah Department of Work Force Services releases data on current jobs and unemployment for the state on a monthly basis. You can watch their most recent video below for a detailed update of the most recent employment data.

The state of Utah ticked down to a 3.0% unemployment rate ranking below the 3.8% national average.

We’ve also seen a 3.5% job growth (compared to May of 2017) rate compared to the 1.6% national growth rate.

“We can see some momentum building heading into summer months,” says Carrie Mayne, Chief Economist at the Department of Workforce Services. “Our economy is functioning quite well.”

Kaitlyn Sterling, an account manager in our Ogden, Utah staffing office had this to say about the latest job report:

“I think it is great that there is an increase of job growth in Utah. It is reassuring for people who move, or for someone like myself who is a military spouse, with finding a job at our next duty station being a big stressor. Having a job market with lots of options helps to relieve that stress of finding work after a big move.

I do however think that is more challenging for us in the staffing industry. With there being so many jobs available, people are able to pick and choose jobs more easily, which I think can turn to more turnover. Carrie stated, ‘People are able to find work quickly.’ With that being said, I feel like people will be more likely to job hop with all the options they have available. If they don’t like the job they will leave to go on to the next job opening.”

David Sanchez, the manager in our West Valley City, Utah staffing office added:

“What a great news for the state of Utah. For us as a staffing agency this is a challenge, this is the time that we need to be more creative on the ways we sell the jobs to our patrons. We need to be more diligent on finding the prospective candidates to the job openings we have!”

Thanks for the input Kaitlyn and David!
