Most Recent Employment Numbers in Utah
The Utah Department of Work Force Services releases data on current jobs and unemployment for the state on a monthly basis. You can watch their most recent video below for a detailed update (released in May) of April’s employment data.
The state of Utah currently has maintained a 3.1% unemployment rate ranking below the 4.4% national average.
We’ve also seen a 3.3% job growth (compared to April of 2016) rate last month compared to the 1.4% national growth rate.
“Last month Utah ranked first for both total job growth and private sector job growth,” says Carrie Mayne, Chief Economist at the Department of Workforce Services. “We know that we’re one of the strongest economies in the nation.”
How Utah Employment Numbers Affect Staffing
Haylee Sorenson, an account manager at our Ogden, Utah staffing office had this to say about the latest job report:
“The current unemployment rate has it’s positives and negatives. The positive is that there are plenty of jobs available to current job seekers. The negative is that there’s not enough people to effectively fill these open job positions. I think that is where it affects the staffing work that we do.
We here at YES always want to deliver the right people, on time, the first time. It is taking a little longer to accomplish that goal of ours. We are still seeing people come through our door everyday but they may not be qualified for positions we have or simply may not be interested. We are having to get a little more creative with our outreach and we have to act fast when we find the right person for the job. We don’t want to just send a warm body, we want to send the right one.”
