Most Recent Employment Numbers in Utah
The Utah Department of Work Force Services releases data on current jobs and unemployment for the state on a monthly basis. You can watch their most recent video below for a detailed update of the most recent employment data.
The state of Utah currently has a 3.1% unemployment rate ranking below the 4.1% national average.
We’ve also seen a 3.3% job growth (compared to March of 2017) rate last month compared to the 1.6% national growth rate.
“Knowing that job growth continues to move forward, we feel confident that there are going to be opportunities,” says Carrie Mayne, Chief Economist at the Department of Workforce Services.
How Utah Employment Numbers Affect Staffing
Aime Lopez, an account manager in our Ogden, Utah staffing office had this to say about the latest job report:
“This information gives us some insight on what industries are currently in the most need and how many people are actually looking for jobs at the moment. I think the Utah job numbers help us at YES to better understand our audience and what kind of potential employees we are going to have walk through the door.
If we stay on top of this we are able to understand why we may be struggling on filling jobs and be educated enough to explain it to our clients as well.”
Claudia Olivares, an account manager at our North Salt Lake, Utah staffing office added this:
“When I hear that the economy in Utah is good and unemployment is low here which is true; a lot of companies have the mentality that it’s going to be harder to find people to work and overall everything is harder because of the competition too, etc. But that’s not necessarily what it means.
Even though unemployment is lower, there are still a lot of people out there looking for work. A lot of job openings and job seeking. I think taking this is as a challenge is a good mentality to have and with that, focusing on better recruitment strategies. There are steps we can take to combat our hiring hurdles, if we focus on our status, recruitment, hiring the right fit to avoid turnover, we should be able to increase the number of applicants interested In our jobs and ultimately fill our open roles.”
Thanks for the input Aime and Claudia!
