Employment Numbers in Utah | January 2022
The Utah Department of Work Force Services releases data on current jobs and unemployment for the state on a monthly basis. Here is the latest employment data for the month of January 2022.
The state of Utah reported an astoundingly low unemployment rate of 2.2% ranking well below the national rate which ticked up to 4.0%. Utah’s unemployment rate remains second in the nation, behind Nebraska.
Utah also reported a positive 4.1% job growth rate (compared to January of 2021) in line with the national job growth rate at which jumped to 4.6%.
“Utah is one of only four states in the nation that have more jobs now than before the pandemic,” says Mark Knold, Senior Economist at the Department of Workforce Services. “All of Utah’s major industry sectors have returned to or are exceeding their pre-pandemic levels.”

How Utah’s Employment Numbers Impact the Staffing Industry

“Labor is fully employed in Utah,” says Knold. “Finding additional workers is task and a challenge for many employers.”
All of Utah’s industries are positioned to move to new heights after shaking off pandemic’s negative impacts. Utah’s has accomplished the nation’s best state-specific economic rebound since the pandemic and we’re experiencing Utah’s lowest unemployment rates ever. A major contributing reason is that there are more people who have withdrawn themselves from the workforce and it is still unknown if or when they’ll return.
