Utah Job Numbers | April 2017

Most Recent Employment Numbers in Utah

The Utah Department of Work Force Services regularly releases current jobs and unemployment numbers for the state. Watch their most recent video below for a detailed update (released in March) of February’s employment data.

The state of Utah currently has a 3.1% unemployment rate ranking below the 4.7% national average.

We’ve also seen a 3.3% job growth rate last month compared to the 1.7% national growth rate.

“Our extremely low unemployment rate shows that we are getting people into jobs and creating a lot of opportunities for jobseekers,” says Carrie Mayne, Chief Economist at the Department of Workforce Services.

Seth Hopkin, an HR manager who works out of one of our Ogden, Utah staffing offices had this to say about the latest job report.

“When unemployment numbers are so low and so many companies are looking for qualified applicants, job hopping in positions that require technical training, secondary education, or extensive experience is more common.

For YES the low unemployment rate, even though statistics indicate we are in the ‘fastest growing’ segment of the economy, may be because it is harder to find the right fit for the positions that are available. I don’t know how much of the population is considered unemployable, or how to even define that term, but there are certainly fewer candidates to consider for each open position.

With that said, if it is difficult for YES to find employees, the service we provide becomes for more valuable for the companies we partner with because it is that much more time they don’t need to spend looking for the right candidate in a difficult hiring environment.”

Thanks for the input Seth.
